The swim

Update: The Team plans to leave Holland, MI Tuesday, Aug 11 and head to Two Rivers, WI. Depending on weather, they will either begin their swim across the lake on Tuesday afternoon or first thing Wednesday morning!

In August, the Epic Swim 2020 team will leave from Two Rivers, WI and swim continuously until they reach the shore in Ludington, MI. The target window for the swim is Aug 9-23. Because weather conditions are so important for a 24-hour, through-the-night swim, the exact date of the swim won’t be announced until the late July/early August.

This will be the 2nd ever mid-lake crossing, first-ever relay crossing and hopefully the fastest-ever mid-lake crossing. Amazingly, Jim Dreyer completed the only mid-lake crossing in 1998 as a solo effort. We will follow his same route. Currents added to his mileage and he swam 65 miles in just under 41 hours. Our team is hoping to complete the 60-mile journey in 24-28 hours.

Logistics: We will have a support boat for the journey and are targeting a day with west winds and calm-ish seas. Lake Michigan is a beautiful beast. We want this swim to honor this amazing body of water and we have great respect for Mother Nature. We need her blessing for a safe, successful passage.
